Hi Y’LL, Just a note to play catch-up:
I got married a year after graduation to Sol A. Velez. We did the Army thing during the 60’s, but he went to Germany
instead of Vietnam. I joined him in Kansas for two years, and then back to Ohio where he became an Air Traffic Controller.
Our daughter Emily was born in Ohio. His job took us to Michigan where my son Sol Anthony was born then back to Ohio and from
there to Puerto Rico for three years before settling in Sunny Florida. We divorced in Florida.
During our married time, I got a Cosmetology license (Hi, Kathy F.) from Northern Institute of Cosmetology in Lorain.
I got a Real Estate License in Michigan and sold real estate the time I was there. When I came back to Ohio, I joined one
of the local banks and stayed in banking for around twenty years ending up a Loan Officer in Florida. I attended the community
colleges in Lorain, Michigan and Florida to always further my education.
I’m now retired
and enjoy life with my husband David. He’s a retired Lockheed Martin engineer. We’re busy in our retirement years
working on computers, and sometimes rebuilding them for missionaries all over the world and most our friends. We have many,
many hobbies. I have three grandchildren and David has one.
I’m very active
in church work and choir. I’m in a group that makes quilts for Boggy Creek Camp for terminally ill children. We also
do quilts for the baby cribs and Islet covers for the preemies at Arnold Palmer Hospital. When we have time, we do booties
and hats for the preemies.
I walk with friends twice a week and do Yoga once a week.
I try to fight “Father Time” anyway I can. I love doing yard work and working in the garden. I relax by reading-love
to read. Who said retirement was boring?? I hope to see you all in July. Sonia E

Paul Biber

Paul Biber, after graduating from AKHS, went on to the Naval Academy in Annapolis. After two years there, he transferred
to the University of Toledo, graduating in 1970 and began his career as a social studies teacher at Admiral King High School
the same year. Paul is now in his 36th year of teaching U.S. History with nothing definitive as to whether he will retire
at the end of the 2005-06 school year.
Paul's expertise in the area of U.S. History and all the
Presidents from Washington to Bush has made him a yearly guest on WLCS, TV-20, every February, discussing each of the Presidents.
The program thus far as brought rave reviews from viewers throughout Lorain. Copies of the programs have been requested by
other educators to be used in classrooms beyond Admiral King High School.
Paul and his wife Joan have two sons. Daniel graduated from AKHS with the class
of 2005. Dan was an outstanding basketball player for the Admirals and is now a student at Dartmouth, playing basketball for
the Dartmouth varsity team. The younger son, Joshua, is a freshman at Lorain Southview High School. Josh, as he is affectionately
called, is a starter on the Southview Saints varsity basketball team.
Speaking of basketball,
Paul started coaching the Admiral King girls' varsity team back in the 1977-78 school year. He coached the gals for twenty-five
consecutive years, giving up the reins long enough to take on the boys' varsity basketball team the year his son Daniel was
a junior. After one year coaching the boys, Paul than returned to coach the Lady Admirals, now back in his second year, twenty-eighth
over-all with the girls.
Robert Burgett

Forty years ago, swore never, as an adult, to live in Ohio's humidity. After
residing here (Powell, nw Columbus) for the last 27 years, still swearing--and only quasi-adult. Let's see,
1970 B.S. (what else?) in math at Miami U. and a USAF commission. Five-and-a-half years (4 in Germany, 1.5 in Montana)
of calling buffoons "sir" and being called "sir" unnecessarily by others --enough already. By
1979, Barbara had her degree in Wildlife Biology at the Univ. of Montana, my 2nd B.S. (pattern?) also in Wildlife Biology--heavy
emphasis in ornithology. Then realized we had to eat (call me "birdbrain") and that meant needing money to buy food. Moved
to Ohio--eleven years as an analyst/transportation planner at the Columbus MPO, then 14 years at ODOT working as its alchemist,
trying to turn crappy results from travel demand forecasting models into data that could actually be used to design and construct
roads. Vitals: Retired! One great wife for 31 years, no kids, one Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
named "Cuyler", four cats, and a 10-year old mechanical aortic valve named "St. Jude 27." Expect to be
bald by our 50th. Bob & Barbara, mostly Barbara love to garden.

Michael Dirda

Michael Dirda is a writer and senior editor for The Washington
Post Book World. His reviews or essays appear weekly, and address a broad range of interests: classics in translation, intellectual
history, children's picture books, fantasy and crime fiction, biographies, American and European literature, poetry, and innovative
writing of all kinds. In his monthly Readings column he touches, light-heartedly (he hopes), on all kinds of bookish matters
collecting modern firsts, rediscovering neglected novels, the pleasures of ghost stories, the teaching of writing and much
else, most of it at least semi-autobiographical.
Born in the rust-belt city of Lorain, Ohio, Dirda received a
scholarship to Oberlin College, from which he graduated with Highest Honors in English (1970). The following year he taught
English in Marseille, France on a Fulbright grant. From 1971-1975, Dirda attended graduate school at Cornell University through
an NDEA Title IV fellowship in comparative literature. At Cornell he specialized in medieval studies and European romanticism,
and there received honorable mention in the Corson French Prize (essay on Baudelaire) and the Goethe German Prize (essay on
Heinrich von Morungen). He earned an M.A. in 1974 and a Ph.D. in 1977. His dissertation focused on the autobiographical impulse
in the French writer Stendhal.
Before joining Book World in 1978,
Dirda taught world literature at American University and George Mason University, and worked as a free-lance writer, translator
and editor. Over the years he has contributed essays, profiles and reviews to a variety of publications - Smithsonian Magazine,
Civilization, Encarta, Connoisseur, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Collier's Encyclopedia Yearbook, The Review of Contemporary
Fiction, etc. For three years he was a board member of the National Book Critics Circle. He frequently conducts public conversations
with visiting writers for the Smithsonian Institution , most recently with Booker Prize winner Arundhati Roy, crime novelist
Donald E. Westlake, and Gore Vidal. He has also contributed lengthy biographical-critical essays to scholarly volumes on detective
fiction (John Dickson Carr, Edmund Crispin) and science fiction and fantasy (The European Tradition in Supernatural Fiction,Jack
Vance, Maupassant). Dirda also frequently talks to universities, schools and civic groups about literary journalism. He has
written a short paperback, distributed by the Book of the Month Club, called Caring for Your Books, and the recent Readings;
Essays and Literary Entertainments (Indiana University Press). Other book projects are also in the works.
In 1993 Dirda received the Pulitizer Prize for Distinguished Criticism. In 1995 he
received a Washington Post/Duke University Fellowship, and in 1997 he was awarded an honorary doctorate of letters from Washington
College, Chesterfield, Maryland. In 1999 he was a visiting master artist in literary journalism at the Atlantic Center for
the Arts in New Smyrna Beach. And in the fall of 1999 he was the Distinguished Visiting Honors Lecturer at the University
of Central Florida.
Dirda is married to art conservator Marian
Peck Dirda. They live, with their three sons, in Silver Spring, Maryland in a house filled with too many books.

While George made the candy using his own recipes, Charles ran the store. George and Charles continued with

I plan on attending the reunion. It will be great to see old friends and make new friends.
I have been at Huntington Bank for 32 years and have been fortunate enough
to be in the right place at the right time during my career and become the Senior Vice President of Consumer Collections.
I married a high school sweetheart in 1967 and unfortunately, when he was drafted during the Viet Nam war and gone
for two years, we matured in different directions and got divorced shortly after he returned.
I got married again 26 years ago to Leonard Gill.
I only had one son from my first marriage and have a beautiful 3 yr old granddaughter who is the love of my life. I
have two step children and 6 more grandchildren that we enjoy.
Karen Nelson Hirth

After graduating from AKHS I went to Bowling Green and graduated
with a degree in Education, certified to teach English and Speech, grades 7 - 12. I began at Eastview Jr. High School, where
I met my husband Gary. We married in May, 1971. We have a son Seth, 27.
I
spent my entire career in the Revere Local School District, where I taught until 2001. I served as Revere High School English
Department Chair for many years. My most fulfilling teaching experiences were teaching Advanced Placement English to twelfth
graders. Spending all those years in high school helped to keep memories of days at Admiral King fresh in my mind. I enjoy many pursuits including Indians baseball, antiques, reading, traveling, seeing friends
and serving as secretary for both NAMI-Medina County and for Art and History Class of Wadsworth. It's
nearly unfathomable that 40 years have passed. I look forward to seeing many classmates in July to celebrate our reunion.

Hey Gang, Thought I'd update things before the reunion:
After graduating from Ohio University in 1971, I lived
and worked in Cleveland as an architect for 15 years. During that period, I met (and married) Louise, who is originally from
North Royalton. Our two children, Jessica and Matthew, were born in 1978 and 1980, respectively. In 1986 we moved to Bowling
Green, where I took the position of Associate University Architect at BGSU. Our kids attended and graduated from Bowling Green
High School. Jessica received her Masters in Philosophy from BGSU, and is living in Columbus. Matthew got his undergraduate
degree at Ohio State, and has now completed his first year of Law School at Georgetown. He is living with his wife, Libby,
in Wasington, D.C.
In 1999, Louise and I moved down I-75 to Findlay (home of the Trojans and Ben Roethlisberger), where
she is the librarian/media specialist at Van Buren High School, and I have my own private architectural practice. I have occasionally
tought (adjunct faculty) at BGSU and Owens State Community College.
In the enclosed photograph of Matt & Libby's
wedding in July of 2005, from left to right; Jessica, Libby, Matthew, Louise, Me .
Looking forward very much to the
40th reunion and reliving memories (fond or otherwise).

Anibal Torres

"I
don't appear in the 1966 Admiral King Trident Yearbook because I never took the graduation picture for the yearbook. My
brother is Saul Torres who appears in the yearbook. I attended Lorain County Community College (LCCC) from 1966-1968 and transferred
to Kent State University for the winter quarter 1969. I was at Kent State through 1970 and the shootings on the campus on
May 4th, 1970 (I can still smell the tear gas).
I made the mistake of dropping out for fall 1970 (with a quarter
or so remaining to graduate) and was quickly greeted with a draft notice. Instead, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy during 1971-1975.
That mistake as it turned out became a blessing as it was my good fortune to be stationed back in Puerto Rico for the entire
duty. During my stint in the navy I enjoyed playing intramural basketball, softball, volleyball, and football. It was the
best paid vacation I ever had.
I returned to Kent State in 1975 to complete my last few classes for my Bachelor's
degree and completed a Masters program as well. I worked full-time at Kent State from 1978 until my retirement in June 2003.
I worked 16 years in various administrative capacities in the Student Financial Aid Office and as a network (LAN) administrator
for the Career Services Center for 9 years leading up to my retirement.
Since my retirement I have taken on several
part-time and seasonal jobs to keep active. My constant companion and roaddog is my little shih-tzu, Pancho.
I
have been blessed with two wonderful children and am awaiting for one of them to make me a grandpa someday soon."

Karen Trautwein

Hi Everyone! After high school I tried to find work, because I did not want to go to college, I
was tired of school. I ended up going into the Marine Corps for 3 years and became
a payroll clerk. I got to see a bit of the world I served a year in Okinawa,
but most of my time was in California. After the service I came home and worked At Griffith Blacktop as a payroll Clerk and
radio operator for 2 years. Upon leaving there I decided to go back to school and got my associates degree in accounting. Upon completing that I became employed by P. C. Campana, Inc., starting out as an
accounts payable clerk. During my 27 years with P. C. Campana, Inc. I have been
in management for the last 26 years and had numerous jobs with the company and I am still with them.
I was with a man
for 16 years and decided to marry him you probably seen him with me at the past reunions.
After 4 years of marriage he unfortunately passed away, so I have been a widow for 12 years. I have no children of my own, but 4 step-children and a couple step-grandchildren.
I keep very busy
I am a golfer in the summer and bowler in the winter. My mother is still with
me and takes up a lot of my time; I am not complaining she did it for me when I was little.
When she is well I like to travel any chance I get, especially Las Vegas,
I have friends there, so I try to go there at least twice a year.
I am really glad
that we are trying to stay connected as the Class of '66. Carmen has done a great
job in helping us to do this. We will have to consider getting together a little
more often. (Reunion Committee)
